Silverstein Advances in Main Draw at Regionals

STILLWATER, Okla. — University of Iowa men’s tennis student-athlete Josh Silverstein won two matches to advance to the Round of 16 in the main draw at the ITA Regional Championships at the Greenwood Tennis Center. 

The junior defeated Oregon’s Kenneth Boykin, 6-1, 6-3, in the second round after a first round bye. In Round of 32 action, Silverstein beat an in-state rival Ben Wood of Drake, 6-2, 6-4. The Hawkeye will play Oklahoma State’s Julian Cash on Saturday.

Junior Jake Jacoby, sophomore Tony Leto, and redshirt freshman Kareem Allaf bounced back today in consolation play after loses in Thursday’s main draw.

Jacoby defeated Nebraska’s Tomislav Antoljak, 7-5, 6-1. Leto beat Luke Moorehead of Nebraska-Omaha, 3-6, 6-0, 10-4. Allaf won, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4, over Creighton’s Alex Koca.

Hawkeyes Nils Hallestrand, Jonas Larsen, and Jason Kerst finished singles competition at Regionals today. The trio fell to Amaury Navette of UMKC, David Farragut of St. Louis, and Stefan Milicevic of Minnesota, respectively.

In doubles, Silverstein and Allaf fell to Inoue/Herzan of Wichita State, 8-4, while Haden and Jacoby lost to Ghilea/Papa of Oklahoma, 8-6.

Saturday’s singles action begins at 10 a.m. (CT) at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University.
