Will Davies, Joe Tyler to Join Hawkeye Roster

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Joe Tyler and Will Davies have signed national letters of intent the University of Iowa men’s tennis program next fall, head coach Ross Wilson announced Thursday.
 
Tyler, a native of Corby, England, has reached an ITF ranking as high as 210; his current Men’s Open ranking in Great Britain is No. 49. He has collected ITF singles titles in Doha, Qatar and Malmo, Sweden in 2016.
 
The future Hawkeye was the runner up in the U18 British National Championships in August 2016.
 
Tyler is ranked No. 9 in Great Britain’s U18 division.
 
“I’m really looking forward to coming to Iowa and being part of a strong team,” said Tyler.
 
During his junior career, Davies was named National U12 British Clay Court champion and was top-30 in the Europe Tennis U14 rankings. He was also a runner up in singles and doubles at the British National U14 Championships.
 
Davies’ current ITF ranking is 352. He represented Great Britain five times in the U14 and U16 International events.
 
The Norwich, England native holds Great Britain’s U18 No. 26 ranking and Men’s Open ranking of No. 85.
 
“I am absolutely delighted to be signing for Iowa,” said Davies. “As soon as I came for the visit, I knew it was the right place for me. The team made me feel very welcome while I was out there, and I can’t wait to be part of the program next fall.”
 
The pair has combined to win seven ITF doubles titles together over the last two years. Those titles came in Moldova (2014), England (2014), Finland (2015), Croatia (2015), Macedonia (2015), Malmo, Sweden (2016), and Doha, Qatar (2016).
 
Davies and Tyler were also ITF doubles runner-ups in Scotland (2015), Finland (2015), and Portugal (2016).
