Iowa City, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team is set to kick off the 2016-17 season with the Black & Gold Intrasquad Meet on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT in the Field House. Prior to the meet, fans will have a chance to meet the Hawkeyes in the practice gym.
“Black and Gold is always an exciting time of year for our us,” said head coach Larissa Libby. “It signifies the beginning of our season and really tests where we are in terms of preparedness for the first competition. It’s a nice first look for our fans so they can come, see what we’ve been up to and interact with our team.”
Saturday’s activities will begin with a meet and greet with the coaching staff and student-athletes at 9 a.m. From 9:20-10 a.m., fans will have the opportunity to participate in an open gym session with members of the Iowa gymnastics team. Coffee and Donuts will be provided, while supplies last.

Their ten-win season was highlighted by victories against No. 14 Nebraska, No. 21 Illinois, and No. 25 Ohio State. Following the season, head coach Larissa Libby was named NCAA North Central Region Coach of the Year, while assistant coach Jennifer Green received NCAA North Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
