IOWA CITY, Iowa — For the second straight week, University of Iowa sophomore Megan Gustafson has been named to the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday. It is the fourth weekly honor of Gustafson’s career and her third of the season.
Gustafson averaged 21.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in a pair of Big Ten Conference games against Illinois and Nebraska last week. She led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 7-of-12 (.583) from the field at Illinois. Gustafson pulled down 13 boards (6 offensive) to register her eighth double-double of the season. She also dished out three assists and went 7-for-8 from the free throw line against the Illini.
The Port Wing, Wisconsin, native had another stellar performance against Nebraska. She recorded a team-high 22 points and a team-leading nine rebounds to lead Iowa to its first Big Ten victory of the season. She shot an impressive .750 from the field (9-for-12) and added two blocks and a pair of steals.
On the season, Gustafson is averaging 17.3 points and 10.3 rebounds. She’s shooting .675 (110-of-163) from the field — a mark that leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth nationally. Gustafson also ranks sixth in the NCAA in rebounds (155) and seventh in double-doubles (8) and field goals made (110).
Gustafson earned Big Ten Player of the Week accolades on Nov. 14 before being named to the Honor Roll on Dec. 26. She garnered Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Feb. 22, 2016.
Iowa returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Penn State. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (CT). The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
