SAN DIEGO — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team fell, 4-0, to No. 25 Oregon (13-2) in semi-final action at the SDSU/USD Invitational on San Diego State’s campus on Friday.
Sophomore Jonas Larsen and redshirt freshman Kareem Allaf took Oregon’s doubles team of Ty Gentry and Armando Soemarno to a tiebreak decision on court two before falling, 7-6(5). The Hawkeyes dropped the doubles point to start the match.
In singles action, Allaf was in the midst of a 6-4, 5-1 competition with Simon Stevens on court two when the match was left unfinished. The match was Allaf’s first time in the two spot this season.
Junior Lefteris Theodorou played in the one spot for the eighth time this season. He dropped his match to No. 40 Thomas Laurent, 6-3, 6-3.
Iowa (10-5, 1-1) will return tomorrow against San Diego in the third place match of the eight-team SDSU/USD Invitational at 2 p.m. (PT).
