SAN DIEGO — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team fell, 4-3, to the University of San Diego (7-5) in the third place match of the USD/SDSU Invitational on San Diego’s campus.
In singles competition, junior Jake Jacoby improved his win streak to five with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alexandros Araouzos on court six. Sophomore Jonas Larsen competed in the four spot for the first time this season, picking up his first win in that position since April 15, 2016. The native of Koege, Denmark, took down Joel Gamerov, 7-6, 6-4
Juniors Josh Silverstein and Lefteris Theodorou rallied from a, 4-2, deficit to clinch the doubles point for the Hawkeyes on court one. They defeated San Diego’s Filip Vittek and Joshua Page, 6-4. Larsen and redshirt freshman Kareem Allaf also picked up a doubles win over Guus Koevermans and Araouzos, 6-2.
Allaf played on court one for the first time and took his match against No. 55 Vittek to three sets before falling, 6-7, 7-6, 6-1.
The Hawkeyes (10-6) return to conference action on March 26, when they travel to Minneapolis to face the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
