IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa Student-Athlete Academic Services has recognized junior Jake Adams (Baseball) and senior Angel Metcalf (Women’s Gymnastics) as March’s male and female student-athletes of the month.
This honor, voted by their peers, recognizes student-athletes who have excelled not only in their sport, but in the classroom as well.
Adams, a sports studies major, batted .382 with seven home runs, 24 RBIs, and 13 runs in the month of March, helping the Hawkeyes post an 11-6 record. In addition, Adams recorded nine multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games. Adams ranks second in the Big Ten and 10th nationally in home runs with 13 home runs.
Metcalf, a psychology major, was named First Team All-Big Ten for the regular season on March 13 and to the All-Championship team at the Big Ten Championships on March 18. Metcalf heads to her first NCAA Championship appearance as an individual after finishing atop the podium on beam at the NCAA Champaign Regionals with a career-high 9.950.
Metcalf competes in the all-around at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Missouri. The meet runs April 14-15.
Adams leads the Hawkeyes back to action in their third Big Ten series of the season, heading to Lincoln, Nebraska, this weekend for a three-game set against the Cornhuskers.
