IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three University of Iowa soccer student-athletes — senior Karly Stuenkel, redshirt junior Rose Ripslinger, and sophomore Natalie Winters — were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Stuenkel, a midfielder from St. Charles, Illinois, scored five goals and had four assists as a junior. She was Iowa’s Offensive Player of the Year and Co-Most Valuable Player in 2016. In three seasons, Stuenkel has scored 10 goals and tallied six assists.

Ripslinger, a forward from Davenport, Iowa, played in 16 games last season. She finished her sophomore campaign with two goals and two assists.

Winters, a defender from Michigan, was Iowa’s Newcomer of the Year in 2016. She started all 19 games, logging 1,437 minutes — the third most on the team. Winters, who was a Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection, has been a regular at U.S. National Team Training Camps.

In a vote of the league’s 14 head coaches, Iowa was picked to finish 12th in the Big Ten preseason poll.  Penn State was tabbed as the preseason favorite, followed by Northwestern and Rutgers in the top three.

The Hawkeyes open the regular season Friday against VCU in Richmond, Virginia, at 6 p.m. (CT).
