IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa men’s tennis seniors Josh Silverstein and Jake Jacoby lead a pair of talented freshmen to Tulsa and the ITA All-American Championships this weekend with something to prove.
Silverstein, coming off a solid tournament run at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, is still hungry for more. He goes into the ITA’s with two singles wins in his final fall season. The native of Great Neck, New York, advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles main draw last week in Milwaukee.
“I learned a lot from Milwaukee but one thing that stuck with me was consistency,” said Silverstein. “You have to bring it every day and consistency is key if you want to hang in there with some of the country’s top competition.”
The senior leader is in the main draw in Tulsa this weekend with a lot to prove.
“This is a huge opportunity for me and the program,” Silverstein added. “This tournament is great and I am ready to help put our team on the map.”
Jacoby will have the honor of keeping freshmen Will Davies in check. The duo will compete in the pre-qualifier as doubles partners.
The other Hawkeye newcomer in action will be Joe Tyler. He will be competing in the pre-qualifier singles bracket. Silverstein wants to help Tyler stay level-headed this weekend.
“I’m so excited to finally get to play, and especially because I’m going with the experienced seniors that we have,” Tyler said. “I’m sure I will learn a lot from Josh. I will pay attention on how he prepares. That is so crucial in tennis especially at this level.”
Competition will take place at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
