IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s cross country team entered the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest regional poll at No. 13 while the men moved up one spot to No. 5. The USTFCCCA released its rankings on Monday.
The women re-entered the regional rankings at No. 13 after their performance at the Bradley Pink ce DayClassic on Oct. 13. The women finished in front of three Midwest regionally ranked teams including, No. 3 Missouri, No. 9 Kansas State, and No. 14 Illinois State on their way to a ninth place finish.
Junior Andrea Shine placed runner-up in the women’s red race with a personal-best time of 20:47.3 to enter Iowa’s all-time list at No. 9 in the 6,000 meters.
The Iowa men moved up one spot after winning the meet with a team score of 84 points. The ranking marks Iowa’s highest since they were fifth in the Midwest region during Week 3 of the 2010 season.
The Hawkeyes were led by sophomore Nathan Myelenk in the 8,000 meters, who won the men’s red race with a personal-best time of 24:26.2.
The Hawkeyes begin the postseason at the 2017 Big Ten Championships, hosted by Indiana on Oct. 29. The men’s race begins at 9:45 a.m. (CT) and the women are set to start at 10:45 a.m. Live results are available on the team’s schedule page at hawkeyesports.com.
