IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa soccer team battled through two overtime periods to a scoreless draw against Nebraska on Wednesday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The tie brings the Hawkeyes record to 8-6-2.
Both teams charged the net early in the match, with seniors Karly Stuenkel and Laura Lainson, and sophomore Kaleigh Haus taking shots for Iowa in the first 45 minutes.
Sophomore Olivia Fiegel came closest to a goal in the 76th minute of action, but the shot was saved by Nebraska goalkeeper Aubrei Corder.
Iowa’s sophomore goalkeeper, Claire Graves, registered nine saves in 110 minutes of action.

“We both played on Sunday and to turn around and come out on Wednesday, it’s tough. If I’m not mistaken that’s the first point we’ve earned in the history of playing Nebraska. They’re a very difficult team to play against. We weren’t super concerned about where we were giving up the opportunities though. A lot of the opportunities were on the outside and we had to defend a little bit in the box, but I thought what we struggled a little bit with was when we released pressure our forwards weren’t able to be dynamic enough to keep the ball a little bit longer. It ended up coming back into our end a little too often. This is kind of a bonus game for both of us, and to get a point out of it and keep climbing up the list is big for us.”
