Gustafson, Jackson Named November Student-Athletes of the Month

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa Student-Athletes Academic Services has recognized junior Megan Gustafson (Women’s Basketball) and junior Josh Jackson (Football) as November’s female and male student-athletes of the month.

The honor, voted by their peers, recognizes student-athletes who have excelled not only in their sports, but in the classroom as well.

Gustafson, a business major, has helped guide Iowa to an 8-1 start. During the month of November, Gustafson averaged 22.9 points, 12.9 rebounds, and shot 70.5 percent from the field. Gustafson leads the nation in field goals made (87) and double-doubles (8). She is second in field goal percentage (69.6), third in total points (201), fourth in rebounds (114) and fifth in rebounds per game (12.7). In addition, Gustafson was named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List, awarded to the women’s top college player of the year and has won four straight Big Ten weekly honors.

Jackson, a physical therapy major, contributed in wins over No. 3-ranked Ohio State and Nebraska in November, tallying 14 tackles, three pass break-ups, five interceptions, and one forced fumble in four games. Jackson earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors vs. Ohio State and Wisconsin and was name the Walter Camp and Chuck Bednarik Award national player of the week vs. Ohio State. He also tied a school record with two interception returns vs. Wisconsin and three interceptions against Ohio State.

Gustafson and the women’s basketball team returns to the hardwood Dec. 6 at Iowa State. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT).

Jackson will lead the Hawkeye football team in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27. Kickoff is slated for 4:15 p.m. (CT). Tickets for the game are available on hawkeyesports.com/tickets.
