EAST LANSING, Mich. – The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team begins Big Ten competition at Michigan State this Saturday at 6 p.m. (CT).

IN THE RANKINGS
Iowa is ranked No. 30 in the nation and tenth in the Big Ten Conference.
 
As a team, the Hawkeyes also rank 11th on floor (48.925), 18th on vault (48.725), 26th on uneven bars (47.050), and 30th on beam (48.300).
 
Five Hawkeyes rank in the top-50 nationally in event standings:
All-Around: Sophomore Charlotte Sullivan ranks 13th in the all-around (39.075).
Vault: Senior Nikki Youd stands at 25th in vault rankings (.9.825).
Floor: On floor, sophomore Clair Kaji ranks 25th (9.850) and senior Lanie Snyder ranks 39th (9.825).
Bars: Kaji also ranks 47th on uneven bars (9.800).
Beam: On beam, sophomore Breanna Fitzke ranks 29th (9.825), while Kaji and Sullivan are tied at 46th (9.800).
 
THE COMPETITION
Coached by Mike Rowe, the Spartans are ranked No. 28 nationally and No. 8 in the Big Ten Conference. Michigan State is also ranked ninth on uneven bars (48.900), 12th on floor (48.900), 33rd on beam (47.575), and 35th on vault (47.975). The Spartans began the 2018 season at Bowling Green on Jan. 5 and fell 194.00-193.350. Michigan State returns ten letterwinners this season, including Preseason Gymnast to Watch Gabriella Douglas, and welcomes five newcomers.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Iowa finished fourth (193.000) at the Arizona Quad Meet against Auburn, Iowa State, and Arizona State on Jan. 6.
 
Kaji took home the event title on floor (9.850). The team had five additional top-five finishes. Snyder finished second floor (9.825), while Sullivan finished second in the all-around (39.075). Kaji also placed third on bars (9.800), and Fitzke finished third on beam (9.825). Youd finished fourth on vault (9.825).
