COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team faces its fourth Big Ten opponent, traveling to Illinois on Friday. The meet is slated for 7 p.m. (CT) at Huff Hall.

THE COMPETITION
Led by head coach Nadalie Walsh, Illinois holds an overall record of 4-1 and conference mark of 2-1. The Fighting Illini are ranked No. 28 nationally and No. 4 in the Big Ten Conference. Nationally, the team is also ranked tenth on beam (49.075 average), 33rd on vault (48.800), 34th on uneven bars (48.617), and 49th on floor (48.567). Illinois returns 11 letterwinners off its 2017 squad, including Preseason Gymnast to Watch Rae Balthazor, and welcome six newcomers.
UNDEFEATED IN THE BIG TEN
Iowa holds a 3-0 Big Ten record after defeating, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Maryland.
Iowa notched its first conference win on Jan. 13, topping Michigan State, 193.375-192.900, in East Lansing, Michigan.
Iowa tallied its second Big Ten victory with a 195.725-195.300 win over Ohio State in its home opener at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Jan. 19.
The Hawkeyes registered their third consecutive Big Ten win, defeating Maryland, 196.000-195.350, at the XFINITY Center in College Park, Maryland, on Jan. 25. Five GymHawks earned six titles and the team registered season highs on vault, bars, and beam.
IN THE RANKINGS
Iowa is ranked second in the Big Ten Conference and No. 37 in the nation.
As a team, the GymHawks rank 29th on floor (48.913 average), 31st on beam (48.669), 38th on vault (48.763), and 51st on bars (48.181).
Four Hawkeyes rank in the top 75 nationally in event standings:
All-Around: Junior Nicole Chow ranks 43rd (39.075) and sophomore Charlotte Sullivan ranks 63rd (38.962) in the all-around.
Bars: Chow stands at 54th (9.825) in uneven bar rankings.
Beam: On beam, Chow ranks fifth (9.900) and senior Nikki Youd ranks 61st (9.825).
Floor: Senior Lanie Snyder stands at 66th (9.837) in floor standings.
