Kemerling, Haus Named Team Captains

Hawk Talk Monthly — May 2018 | Fight For Iowa | 24 Hawkeyes to Watch 2016-17

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Senior Morgan Kemerling and redshirt junior Kaleigh Haus have been voted team captains for the 2018 University of Iowa women’s soccer team, it was announced Tuesday by head coach Dave DiIanni.

“We are pleased to see their growth both on and off the field,” said DiIanni. “Kaleigh and Morgan have worked hard during their careers as Hawkeyes to develop both as soccer players and leaders for this program.  We look forward to watching them lead this highly-motivated group this summer and into the fall.”

Kemerling, a defender from Aurora, Illinois, has been Iowa’s Defensive Player of the Year the past two seasons and she was Iowa’s co-recipient of the team’s Hawk Award in 2017.  Kemerling started all 19 games last season, helping the Hawkeyes post seven shutouts.

Haus, a forward from Des Moines, Iowa, ranked third on the team with five goals and was second with 14 points as a sophomore.  Haus posted her first career hat trick last season and she has scored six goals in 38 career games.

Iowa is coming off a season where it won nine games and played into the postseason for the first time since 2014.
