IOWA CITY, Iowa — Five University of Iowa men’s gymnasts– Austin Hodges, Mark Springett, Jake Brodarzon, Brandon Wong, and Kulani Taylor — were named All-American Scholar Athletes for the 2018 season by the College Gymnastics Association on Wednesday.
Overall, 146 gymnasts were named All-American Scholar Athletes. Student-athletes must achieve above a 3.500 GPA to be eligible for first team honors and between a 3.200-3.499 GPA to be eligible for second team honors.
Austin Hodges and Mark Springett were two of 90 gymnasts named to the first team. Hodges’ award marks his fourth straight honor and Springett’s award marks his third consecutive honor.
Brodarzon, Wong, and Taylor were named to the second team, among 56 student-athletes. Brodarzon and Wong are two-time All-American Scholar honorees, while Taylor registers the first award of his career.
First Team All-American Scholar Athletes:
Austin Hodges (Hawkeye Graduate): Physical Therapy
Mark Springett (Hawkeye Graduate): Sports Business
Second Team All-American Scholar Athletes:
Jake Brodarzon (Sr): Human Physiology
Brandon Wong (Jr): Psychology
Kulani Taylor (So): Biology (pre-vet)
