Sam Brincks is a senior defensive lineman for the University of Iowa football team.  The Carroll, Iowa, native had 19 tackles, including five stops as a junior and he was an Academic All-Big Ten selection.  Brincks sat down with hawkeyesports.com for a Q&A session at the 2018 Iowa Football Media Day.

What has been your biggest improvement during the offseason?

“I moved inside so I think inside everything happens a little quicker. I think pad level is the main thing. Centers and guards typically play with good leverage so that is something I’ve been trying to get better at.”

Coming off your best year, how do you plan to carry that momentum in to this season?

“I am trying to improve and lead. We have a lot of young guys that are trying to take that next step too, so I am trying to be a good leader and set an example. That is important.”

What is your mindset coming in to the season now on scholarship?

“I don’t know if there’s any effect really, it is something that is earned. At the end of the day, as a team, we are trying to do bigger things. For me, a personal accomplishment isn’t as important.”

What is a personal goal for you coming in to the season?

“I don’t know if I’ve thought of any personal goals. I want to improve as a leader and help the team move forward.”

In a deep position group, how has that helped push you to the next level?

“You are forced to improve every day and improve quickly. Everyone is competing and trying to earn a spot. It makes it fun in the defensive line room because we are all hard on each other.”

If you could hang out with one celebrity who would it be?

“Rob Gronkowski.”

What would people be surprised to know about you?

“I’ve cut Parker Hesse’s hair for the past year.”

What is one place you would like to travel?

“Venice, Italy.”

What is your favorite restaurant in Iowa City?

“Konomi in Coralville.”

If there was a movie made about you, who would play you?

“Brad Pitt I would hope, but I would settle for Ryan Gosling.”

What is your favorite memory from Iowa over the past three years?

“The Rose Bowl was a great trip. That is something you will always remember. I think it’s more about day-to-day with all the guys. It is something you will never get back because it only happens here.”
