How has the team transitioned from last year to this year?

“We have a smaller women’s team this year compared to last season, but I think that is beneficial for us because we are closer as a group and we can reinforce our team values. Stepping up into the roles of some big point scorers from last year is very important.”

What has been your favorite memory surrounding the team?

“Every year our team vibe is slightly different, but I enjoy the beginning of the season just getting to know everyone and what makes them who they are. Our Navy Seal Challenge is always fun for everyone.”

What is your best advice for this year’s freshman?

“Trusting in the process of the coaches is key. Use the resources available to you and always communicate your ideas.”

What is the best advice you were given by a coach?

“When I was really young, my coach told me I needed to swim my own race and be myself. Ever since I’ve been using that advice not just in the pool but for other things, too.”

Who has been the most influential person to you since you came to Iowa?

“(Former Hawkeye) Nikol Lagodzinska. I admire how true to herself she is and how hard of a worker she was when she was here. We’ll miss her as part of the team.”

What made you choose Iowa?

“I enjoyed everything about Iowa. The energy here is great.”

If not swimming, what other sport would you enjoy the most?

“Gymnastics looks great. I’d love to be able to swing on the bars.”

What is your favorite place on campus?

“The Ann and Russell Gerdin Academic Learning Center is the place I go to do all of my work. There’s a great feel to the environment there.”

Favorite meal?

“My favorite thing to eat is carrots with hummus and sriracha.”

Who is your favorite person on the team to be around and why?

“Samantha Sauer is great to train with because she helps motivate me and everyone around her at practice.”
