CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — University of Iowa cross country sent their developmental team to the Illini Open on Friday to compete in the women’s 5,000 meters. The Hawkeyes took third place in the five team field.
“This meet provides us an additional opportunity for some of our young runners to get in one more race,” head coach Randy Hasenbank said. “We can also evaluate the fall training based on these results”
Leading the Hawkeyes was sophomore Wren Renquist in 11th place with a personal best 5,000 meters, 18:53.8. She was followed by senior Ashley Espinosa in 15th (19:01.0) and freshman Emma Gordon in 16th (19:03.4). Rounding out the final two scoring positions for Iowa were sophomore Mary Arch (19:19.2) and freshman Patty Teggatz (19:33.5), finishing in 24th and 32nd, respectively. The final Hakweye to cross the finish was freshman Elzyrie van Dyk in 53rd (20:17.1).
The Hawkeyes head into the postseason Sunday, October 28. The men’s and women’s team travel to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Big Ten Championships.
