Brodarzon, Vazquez Named to B1G Watch List

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa seniors Jake Brodarzon and Rogelio Vazquez were named to the 2019 Big Ten Men’s Gymnast to Watch List, the conference office announced Thursday.
 
Brodarzon, a native of Paramus, New Jersey, earns the first watch list honor of his career. He competed in every meet for the Hawkeyes last season, registering career-highs on vault (14.366) and rings (14.150). He tied for 15th on vault (14.366) at the NCAA Championship finals on April 21, and earned a fourth-place finish on vault with a career-best 14.460 at the NCAA Championship qualifier on April 20.
 
Vazquez earns his second Gymnast to Watch honor. The Orlando, Florida, native competed in nine meets for the Hawkeyes last season, earning a career-best on floor. Vazquez registered 11 top-10 finishes over three events (high bar, parallel bars, and rings), including a first-place finish on parallel bars (13.900) in a tri-meet against UIC and Stanford on Jan. 21.
 
Iowa opens the 2019 season on Jan. 19 at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago. The Hawkeyes begin their home slate on Feb. 2 against Minnesota and UIC. Tickets for the 2019 slate are on sale now.
