IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team remained unbeaten with a 5-2 triumph over Butler Sunday afternoon at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center.
The Hawkeyes won the doubles point for the fifth straight match. Oliver Okonkwo and Will Davies dominated on court two blanking their opponent, 6-0. Kareem Allaf and Jonas Larsen remain perfect in doubles competition, recording another convincing win on court one, 6-2
Iowa won four out of the six singles matches. Sophomore Piotr Smietana bounced Spencer Lang, 6-2, 6-2, for his fifth victory of the spring. Okonkwo notched his fourth win of the spring in straight sets to give Iowa a 3-0 advantage over the visiting Bulldogs. Davies sealed the win for the Hawkeyes in a second set comeback to remain undefeated. Larsen added another point for the Hawkeyes in a third set tiebreaker. Allaf and Joe Tyler fell in three sets on courts one and two, respectively.

“We got off to a good start in doubles. We were able to win pretty easily. Then at five and six singles we got up 3-1 and Will (Davies) was able to win his tiebreaker and handle the pressure well. It was something we felt like we have done pretty well the first four matches, which continued today and will definitely have to in the future.”
