Gustafson Wins 21st Career Player of the Week Award

IOWA CITY, Iowa — For the 11th time this season, University of Iowa senior Megan Gustafson has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
 
It is the 21st Big Ten Player of the Week Award of Gustafson’s career – a Big Ten record. Gustafson also adds to her record for conference awards in a season (11).
 
The Port Wing, Wisconsin, native averaged 35.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, and shot 72.1 percent from the field last week.
 
She netted 41 points on 17-for-24 (70.8 percent) shooting from the field to lead Iowa to an 86-71 win over No. 21/23 Michigan State on Feb. 7. Gustafson also pulled down 14 rebounds, recorded four blocks, dished out two assists, and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line against the Spartans.
 
On Feb. 10, Gustafson tied a Big Ten record with her 77th career double-double (Jantel Lavender, Ohio State) in Iowa’s 78-52 win over the Buckeyes. She scored 29 points and pulled down 16 boards in 33 minutes of game action. Gustafson shot 73.7 percent (14-for-19) from the field.
 
Gustafson was named the ESPNW National Player of the Week and named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason Team earlier today.
 
The No. 14/16 Hawkeyes return to action on Thursday, hosting Illinois in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. (CT). Tickets are $12 for adults and free for youth and UI students.
