IOWA CITY, Iowa — Freshman Grace McCabe runs distance for the University of Iowa track and field team.

McCabe ran cross country season bests in the 5,000 meters (18:24.47) at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational and 6,000 meters (22:07.8) at the NCAA Midwest Regionals.
 
The Clarendon Hills, Illinois, native also ranks second in the mile (4:55.59) and third in the 800 meters (2:12.98) for the Hawkeyes during the indoor track and field season.
 
She is majoring in psychology.
 
What are you most excited for this year as a Hawkeye?
“I am most excited to travel with the team to competitions.” 
  
What is your best advice for the freshmen?  
“My advice for next year’s freshman would be to try all the muffins in the dining hall because they are all A+.” 
  
Who is your favorite professional athlete?  
“My favorite professional athlete is Jenny Simpson.” 
 
Do you have any pre-meet rituals?  
“I always wear my lucky socks, which are appropriate because they are black and gold.” 
 
When you’re not practicing, what is your favorite thing to do?    
“My favorite thing to do is watch ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,’ when I am not feeling social.” 
 
If you could choose a super power, what would you choose?
“I would choose super speed, but I would probably be disqualified from track and field events, so maybe breathing underwater would be better.” 
 
If you could choose anywhere to live, where would you choose?
“I would choose to live anywhere outside this country, since I haven’t left it before.” 
 
Who would play you in a movie?
“Michael Cera would play me in a movie, because who is a better typecast than him? I’m sure he could work around the gender barrier.” 
 
How do you feel about pineapple on pizza?  
“My feelings are not passionate either way.” 
 
Where’s your favorite spot on campus?
“North Hall since it’s old and secluded.”  
 
What is your favorite meal? 
“My favorite meal is flank steak and cheesy potatoes. Wow, what a dish!”
