Huang and Davis Advance to Winter Cup Finals

LAS VEGAS, Nevada— Two University of Iowa gymnasts, sophomore Bennet Huang and freshman Evan Davis earned points to advance to the Winter Cup finals on Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada. 
 
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
Davis earned a season best on high bar to tie for fifth place (13.650) and advance to the finals. Huang earned points on his floor routine by posting a 13.750 to tie for seventh. Both Davis and Huang will compete in the all-around competition in the final session on Sunday. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Floor
Huang led the Hawkeyes with a 13.750 to tie for seventh, he later earned points and advanced to the finals. Davis followed with a 12.850 (34T) and senior Jake Brodarzon recorded a 11.850 (45). 
 
Pommel Horse
Davis garnered a 12.600 for a 20th-place finish, while Huang and Brodarzon notched scores of 11.550 (39) and 10.100 (44), respectively. 
 
Rings
Davis tied his season-best, 13.300 to tie for 18th place and Brodarzon led Iowa with a 13.500 (14). 
 
Vault
Brodarzon led Iowa again with a 13.950 (21), Huang placed 42nd with a 13.750, and Davis earned a 13.450 to land in 36th place. 
 
Parallel Bars
Brodarzon placed 23rd with a score of 12.900, Davis followed shortly behind with a 12.850 to place 24th. Huang garnered a 10.350 to place 46th. 
 
High Bar
Davis earned points with another season-best, scoring a 13.650 to tie for fifth place to advance to the finals.   
 
All-Around
Davis scored the highest all-around for the Hawkeyes earning a season-best 78.700 to place 18th. Brodarzon followed with a 74.950 to tie for 32nd, and Huang placed 35thwith a 74.250.
