IOWA CITY, Iowa —The University of Iowa soccer team opens its seven-game spring slate Saturday, hosting Minnesota at 1 p.m. (CT) and Western Illinois at 2:30 p.m. at the Indoor Practice Facility.

“The excitement is so high right now in our program,” said Iowa head coach Dave DiIanni. “There is such a love to play the game of soccer with this group and a want to take the next step in our program.”

“Playing two games on Saturday with our big roster, allows everybody to get the opportunity to develop. For us, it is all about development and improvement. Being able to play everybody brings a different mindset.”

Iowa lost the regular season matchup against Minnesota, falling 3-1 during the 2018 season. Redshirt junior Kaleigh Haus scored the Hawkeyes’ lone goal. The Golden Gophers ended the season with a 12-9-2 record and went 5-5-1 in conference play.

The Hawkeyes last faced Western Illinois in 2011, topping the Leathernecks, 6-1, in Iowa City. Western Illinois finished the 2018 season 3-14-1 overall.
