IOWA CITY, Iowa — Sixty-three University of Iowa student-athletes have been named to the 2019 Big Ten Winter Academic All-Conference team. The list includes student-athletes from men’s basketball (5), women’s basketball (7), men’s gymnastics (3), women’s gymnastics (11), men’s swimming and diving (9), women’s swimming and diving (15), and wrestling (13).

The wrestling team’s 13 honorees are a school record, surpassing the program’s 12 in 2012.  The women’s swimming and diving team’s 15 selections are the most since 2016.
 
The Big Ten Conference recognized 932 winter sports student-athletes, including 65 men’s and 68 women’s basketball players, 64 men’s and 100 women’s gymnasts, 69 men’s hockey players, 151 men’s and 264 women’s swimmers and divers and 151 wrestlers.  At least 22 of these student-athletes have maintained unblemished cumulative GPAs.
 
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of March 1 for winter sports, who have been enrolled fulltime at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
