Hawkeyes Conclude Day 1 of Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Iowa track and field competed in six events on Day 1 of the Pepsi Florida Relays on Thursday. 

Sophomore Antonise Christian started the Hawkeyes off in the 200 meters, running a personal best 24.48, and junior Talia Buss narrowly missed her best time by two hundredths of a second, running 24.34. On the men’s side, sophomore Josh Braverman ran the 200 meters in 22.39.

The 400-meter group followed with sophomore Mika Cox running her first collegiate outdoor 400 meters in 58.23. Sophomore Alexis Gay also ran the 400 meters (59.33). Juniors Chris Thompson (47.39) and Collin Hofacker (47.94) won their respective sections of the men’s 400 meters.

The Hawkeyes closed the afternoon with the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Jenny Kimbro and senior Tria Simmons ran their first collegiate 400 hurdles in 59.95 and 59.99, respectively. Simmons won her section, which included sophomore Kylie Morken who ran a 1:03.82. Freshman Raymonte Dow won his section of the men’s 400 hurdles in 52.80.

The Florida Relays continue on Friday at 11 a.m. (CT) with the women’s hammer throw. Iowa also opens the Stanford Invitational with the men’s 1,500 meters at 3:48 p.m. (CT). Full events schedules are available on hawkeyesports.com/trackschedule.
