MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The University of Iowa soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Marquette on Saturday (March 30) to remain perfect in spring play.
The win gives Iowa a spring record of 5-0 heading into its final two games.
In a physical game of two halves, all four goals were scored in the first half. Senior forward Devin Burns netted two goals — her fourth and fifth goals of the spring — while senior forward Bianca Acuario scored her first goal of the spring. Senior goalkeeper Claire Graves played the full 90 minutes, allowing one goal.
“Playing Marquette was a unique opportunity for us because of the style they play,” said Iowa head coach Dave DiIanni. “They are well coached and have big, athletic players. We knew this was going to be an opportunity to see how far we’ve progressed in the spring.
“Scoring has been something we focused on, a couple were good goals and one was a garbage goal, which is important as well, so we are celebrating all those successes and opportunities. I told the team it is always easier to work on areas of improvement when you are winning games. That has been a theme through the entire semester, celebrating successes no matter how big or small they are.”
Iowa will be on a brief break before continuing spring play against UMKC on April 13 in Kansas City, Missouri.
