Tausaga, Tuufuli Sweep Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. — University of Iowa junior Laulauga Tausaga and senior Reno Tuufuli were named Big Ten Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Tausaga earned the award for the second consecutive week and third time this year. Tuufuli earned the award for the first time this season and second time in his career.
 
Tausaga swept the women’s throwing events at the Musco Twilight XX on Saturday. She threw the discus (59.09 meters, 193-10), hammer (58.02 meters, 190-4)), and shot put (15.29 meters, 50-2), winning all three.
 
Tuufuli won the men’s discus and shot put. His 62.54-meter (205-02) discus throw ranks third in the nation and second all-time at Iowa. He threw 17.90 meters (58-8 3/4) in the shot put.
 
The Hawkeyes are in California this week, competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa Pacific), Mount SAC Relays, and the 25th annual Beach Invitational (Long Beach State).
