ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference named University of Iowa junior Laulauga Tausaga Field Athlete of the Week for the third consecutive week on Wednesday.

While in her home state last week, Tausaga put up three school records in hammer, discus, and shot put.

The record-breaking weekend started with the hammer throw record (61.34 meters, 201-3) on Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays, pushing past Annemie Smith’s 2015 record (60.99 meters, 200-1 1/2). On Saturday, Tausaga continued the trend with the discus school record, throwing 62.28 meters (204-4), and followed with her most rewarding performance of the weekend in the shot put. She threw 18.02 meters (59-1 1/2), a mark that measures more than two meters farther than her previous season best.

Tausaga is ranked first in the Big Ten’s discus and shot put standings, and fifth in the hammer. She is also tied for first in the NCAA in shot put and is ranked second in the discus.

Earlier this week, Tausaga was also named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week.

The Hawkeyes travel to the Drake Relays on April 25-27 to compete in their last regular-season meet of the year. More details are linked on hawkeyesports.com/trackschedule.
