NASHVILLE, Tenn. — University of Iowa junior defensive back Amani Hooker was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round of Saturday’s NFL Draft in downtown Nashville. Hooker was the 116th player picked overall and the fourth Hawkeye selected.
Iowa football has had a defensive back selected in three consecutive drafts, including Desmond King (San Diego) in 2017 and Josh Jackson (Green Bay) a year ago. Hooker is the 14th defensive back selected in the Kirk Ferentz era.
Hooker was named the Big Ten’s Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year in 2018 while earning first-team All-Big Ten honors. He was named second-team All-America by The Associated Press and USA Today.
Hooker, a native of Minneapolis, ranked second on the team with 65 tackles, while sharing the team lead in interceptions (four) and pass break-ups (seven). He has named defensive Most Valuable Player.
Tennessee posted a 9-7 record in 2018 under first-year head coach Mike Vrabel. Former Hawkeye player Chic Ejiasi serves as director of player engagement with the Titans.
Iowa has had at least one player drafted in every NFL Draft since 1978, including nine first round selections. Nelson is the 70th player coached by Kirk Ferentz at the University of Iowa to be selected in the NFL Draft.
