IOWA CITY, Iowa – – The University of Iowa football team will stage its annual “Kids at Kinnick” presented by the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, on Saturday, Aug. 10.
Gates to Kinnick Stadium will open at 11 a.m., with the team’s practice scheduled to begin at noon. Team members will sign autographs for kids only at approximately 11:30 a.m., along the front of the west and south stands. Free schedule posters, schedule cards, magnets, and rosters will be available inside all open gates. Fans are discouraged from bringing additional items to be autographed.
Prior to the action on the field, activities will be held in the Krause Family Plaza, which opens to the public at 9 a.m. Hawkeye fans are invited to visit the Kids Zone for inflatable games, face painting, temporary tattoos, other prizes, and a chance to meet Herky the Hawk. The Iowa mascot will be available for photos from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Other kid-friendly activities will be provided by University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Alliant Energy, Authentic Brand, Iowa Corn, Grizzly Coolers, Almost Famous Popcorn, Delta Dental of Iowa, Homewood & Home 2 Suites, and Blue Bunny. Families can also learn more about joining the Junior Hawk Club and the benefits provided to those in the club. Members of the Junior Hawk Club be able Swarm Kinnick Stadium. Kids will need to be signed up for the Junior Hawk Club one week in advance (Aug.5th) for special access on the field.
Free parking will be available on hard surface lots, while normal ramp fees will be charged. Concession stands will be open, with items being sold at discounted prices.
Fans attending Kids Day should enter Kinnick Stadium at Gates A (south end zone) and E (west side). Regular season game-day search procedures will be in place and fans will be allowed to sit in the south and west stands.
Fans should note that there will be no access to the playing surface of Kinnick. Fans are also reminded that the annual “Kids at Kinnick” activity is designed primarily for the enjoyment of younger fans. Therefore, possession of an open container of beer or wine or consumption of hard liquor on University property, including parking lots, is prohibited by law.
The Hawkeyes open the 2019 season with consecutive home games against Miami, Ohio (6:30 p.m., FS1), and Rutgers (11 a.m., FS1), on Aug. 31 and Sept. 7, respectively. Following the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game at Iowa State on Sept. 14 (3 p.m., FS1), the Hawkeyes have an open date before closing the non-conference schedule by hosting Middle Tennessee State (TBA).
Additional home games include Penn State (Oct. 12, TBA), Homecoming versus Purdue (Oct. 19, 11 a.m.), Minnesota (Nov. 16, TBA), and Senior Day versus Illinois (Nov. 23, TBA).
