LIMA, Peru — Former Hawkeye men’s gymnast and current Canadian Senior National team member Cory Paterson won bronze in the all-around at the 2019 Pan American Games on Monday with a total score of 82.200.

Paterson led all gymnasts with a 14.350 on parallel bars and was second on pommel horse (13.050). Paterson’s award is his first individual medal in international competition.

“I went out there and went six-for-six, which I don’t think I have ever done,” Paterson said to Olympicchannel.com, “I have always had some mistakes. It is an unreal feeling to bring another medal to Canada. It’s incredible.”

Paterson, who competed at Iowa from 2014-17, was a 2017 Big Ten runner-up on high bar and an All-Big Ten honoree.

The Iowa men’s gymnastics team is sending four gymnasts to the 2019 U.S. Championships Aug. 8-11 in Kansas City, Missouri.
