IOWA CITY, Iowa – Two University of Iowa gymnasts – sophomore Evan Davis and senior Mitch Mandozzi were named to the 2020 Big Ten Men’s Gymnast to Watch List, the conference announced Wednesday.
Davis, a native of Houston, Texas, earns the first watch list honor of his career. As a freshman, Davis competed in every meet for the Hawkeyes, registering two season bests during the 2019 Big Ten Championships with a 13.900 on floor and 13.633 on rings. Davis also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week after his performance at the Winter Cup, placing third (13.700) on floor and eighth (13.050) on pommel horse.
Mandozzi also earns his first watch list honor of his career. The Harvard, Massachusetts, native competed in every meet for the Hawkeyes last season. Mandozzi posted a career-high 13.750 on vault at the Big Ten Championships and a 14.566 on vault at the 2019 NCAA Championships. He also earned a career-high 13.650 on high bar against Penn State on March 19.
Iowa opens the 2020 season on Jan. 19 at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago. The Hawkeyes host their first meet in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Feb. 1 against Minnesota.
