King and Britt Earn B1G Weekly Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa –University of Iowa senior Mallory King was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week and junior Jamal Britt was named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The weekly honor is King’s first of the season, while Britt is receiving his second. It is the fourth and fifth weekly honor for the Hawkeyes this indoor season.

Both King and Britt were recognized for their performances at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational last weekend.

King won the 800 meters in a time of 2:06.01 that currently ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten and No. 5 in the nation. She ran a leg of the 4×400 meter relay that ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten with a time of 3:42.46, and was named Wieczorek Female Athlete of the Meet.

Britt won the long jump with a mark of 7.56m (24’9.75”). The mark ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten and 12t in the nation. He also finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.70, tied for the third fastest time in program history and a mark that currently ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten and No. 2 in the nation. Britt ran a leg of the 4×400 meter relay that is No.1 in the Big Ten with a time of 3:09.58.

The Hawkeyes return to the track Saturday for the Illini B1G Multi-Meet in Champaign, Illinois.
