IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa junior outside hitter Courtney Buzzerio has been named the Big Ten Volleyball Player of the Week, the Big Ten conference announced Monday afternoon.
Buzzerio earns her first weekly honor, becoming the first Hawkeye to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors since Reghan Coyle on Oct. 31, 2016.
A Chino Hills, California, native, Buzzerio narrowly missed two triple-doubles in a split against Rutgers, Feb. 19-20.
In Friday’s 3-1 win, Buzzerio was two kills shy of a triple-double with eight kills, 26 assists, and 11 digs. On Saturday, in Iowa’s five-set loss, Buzzerio tallied 19 kills, which tied a career high, a season-high 27 assists, and nine digs. Her .381 hitting percentage on 42 total attacks is a season high.
Buzzerio is the only individual in the Big Ten and one of nine nationally to record a triple-double this season. She leads Iowa with 92 kills and 12 aces, ranks second on the team in assists (170) and digs (75), and third in total blocks (28). Buzzerio’s 12 aces rank sixth in the Big Ten.
The Hawkeyes travel to Evanston, Illinois, to face Northwestern for a two-game set, Feb. 26-27. Friday’s opening match is set for 6 p.m. (CT) and will be televised on B1G Network+.
