CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The University of Iowa soccer team fell 3-0 to Illinois on Thursday afternoon at Demirjian Park.
The Fighting Illini grabbed the 1-0 lead in the 30th minute on a goal from Summer Garrison before adding a second goal with 57 seconds left in the first half on a strike from Kendra Pasquale.
Pasquale stuck again less than 10 minutes into the second half to push the Illinois advantage to 3-0.
The Hawkeye offense finished with 13 shots with eight being on goal, but Illinois goalkeeper Sami Sample made eight saves in the shutout. Junior Hailey Rydberg had a team-high four shots with three being on goal.
OF NOTE
– Iowa led Illinois in shots (13-9), shots on goal (8-7), and corner kicks (7-3).
– Freshmen Rielee Fetty and Meike Ingles started their first career games, playing 75 and 64 minutes, respectively.
– Redshirt sophomore Monica Wilhelm played all 90 minutes in goal. Junior Sara Wheaton was the only other Hawkeye to reach that total.
