IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis doubles team of Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo is ranked No. 2 in the Oracle ITA Division I national rankings released on Wednesday. The No. 2 ranking is the highest ranking by a doubles team in program history.
The duo vaulted eight spots after being ranked No. 10 in the previous poll. Davies/Okonkwo cruised to a pair of 6-1 victories over top 15 opponents last weekend. The tandem beat 14th-ranked Clark/Brown of Illinois and Northwestern’s Brookes/Bratholm.
“A great accomplishment for Will and Oliver,” said Mellecker Family Head Men’s Tennis Coach Ross Wilson. “They set out to play in the NCAA Tournament and become Iowa’s first-ever All-Americans. They are one step closer to accomplishing that goal.”
Davies/Okonkwo are 10-2 this season, including a 4-1 mark against ranked opponents. Top-ranked Reynolds/Sandkaulen from the University of Mississippi are 13-2 overall.
Iowa returns to action on Friday at Wisconsin (3 p.m. CT).
