CORAL GABLES, Fla./ATLANTA – The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team opened action in two midseason invites Thursday, competing at the Miami (Fla.) Invitational and the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Iowa junior Anna Brooker placed fifth overall in the 500 free in 5:05.53, while junior Peyton Lange had a season-best time in the finals (5:08.48), placing sixth.
Three more season-best times came in the finals of Thursday’s events. Juniors Aleksandra Olesiak (2:07.19) and Zoe Pawloski (2:14.82) times both came in the 200 IM. Olesiak would go on to finish fourth.
The final season-best of the day occurred in the 50 free. Lange posted her second season-best of the night with 24.59. Junior Kennedy Gilbertson and sophomore Maddie Black finished fifth and sixth in the same race, respectively.
The Hawkeyes’ quartet of Gilbertson, Black, Ariel Wooden and Olesiak placed fifth in the 200-free relay with a time of 1:37.45 and the 400-medley relay consisting of Gilbertson, Olesiak, Georgia Clark and Wooden finished in 3:55.16 to place fifth.
The Friday prelims are set to begin at 9 a.m. (CT). Events on deck include the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, and 100 back.
TAMBORSKI, BALLARD FINAL IN ATLANTA
The Hawkeyes fared well in Atlanta with two divers qualifying for the finals off the 1-meter springboard.
Senior Sam Tamborski continued to deliver in her final season, placing fifth with 266.15. Sophomore Sarah Ballard placed seventh with 260.15
Iowa will compete on the 3-meter springboard Friday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
