Hawkeyes Drop Road Match to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana — The University of Iowa volleyball team fell to Indiana, 3-0, on Sunday at Wilkinson Hall.

Edina Schmidt had the highest attack percentage for the Hawkeyes, hitting at .300, with seven kills. Courtney Buzzerio led the squad with 10 kills. Bailey Ortega totaled a match-best 23 assists, to go along with a team-best 11 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 (Indiana, 25-17): The Hawkeyes and the Hoosiers traded points throughout the beginning of the match. With the score tied 11-11, Indiana went on a 7-2 run to take an 18-13 lead. Indiana would maintain that five-point advantage as the score grew to 20-15 and 22-17. The Hoosiers ended the first set with a 3-0 run.

SET 2 (Indiana, 25-16): Indiana opened the second set taking a 7-3 lead over the Hawkeyes. That lead continued to grow. The Hoosiers’ advantage swelled to 14-7 and 20-12 and ultimately Indiana took the second set by nine.

SET 3 (Indiana, 25-17): The Hawkeyes fell behind early in the third set trailing 7-3 before battling back to cut the Hoosiers’ lead to 10-8. A 10-3 Hoosier run made the score 20-13. The Hawkeyes scored twice to narrow things to 21-15, but Indiana won the set by eight to clinch the match.

The Hawkeyes head to New Brunswick, New Jersey, on Friday to face Rutgers. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT).
