IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa student-athletes Tony Cassioppi (wrestling) and LaSarah Hargrove (track and field) were named December’s Student-Athletes of the Month. The University of Iowa Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) made the announcement Wednesday.

Cassioppi, a Roscoe, Illinois, native compiled a 4-0 record in the month of December. The junior heavyweight’s perfect record in the month included three wins over ranked wrestlers, and two over opponents ranked inside the top 10. The All-American notched a pair of dual-clinching wins for the No. 1 Hawkeyes, first against No. 13 Iowa State and later against No. 5 NC State.

Hargrove, a native of Tampa, Florida, ran the third-fastest 60-meter time in program history (7.40) at the Jimmy Grant Invitational on December 11. The Hawkeye sprinter’s time currently ranks seventh in the NCAA and leads the Big Ten. The sophomore earned Big Ten Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors on December 15 for her performance – the first conference honors of Hargrove’s career.
