Hawkeyes Conclude Big Ten Championships

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up Big Ten Championship competition on Saturday night at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center, finishing 12th in the team standings.

The last of events included the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, platform diving, and the 400 free relay.

Iowa saw 10 of its swimmers and divers accomplish season-bests in their respective events during Saturday’s events.

Juniors Kennedy Gilbertson (2:01.45), Anna Brooker (2:02.55), Georgia Clark (2:03.15), and Zoe Pawloski (2:05.28) all swam their top times in the 200 back preliminary round. Sophomore Anna Pfeiffer also found her season-best in 200 back with a 2:04.98.

Three season-bests came from juniors Payton Lange (52.73), Ariel Wooden (52.87), and sophomore Maddie Black (53.16) in the 100 free preliminaries.

Junior Aleksandra Olesiak swam a 2:20.52 to continue her impressive week with a season-best in the 200 breast preliminaries.

The Hawkeye’s platform dive preliminary round was led by sophomore Claire Hartley, who scored her season-high 205.70, placing 24th and scoring a point.

Iowa’s quartet of Gilbertson, Lange, Brooker, and Olesiak swam a 3:27.86 in the final event of the championships to score 30 points.

The Hawkeyes will send their qualifying divers back to Madison for NCAA Zone D Championships on March 5-9.
