Volleyball Adds Wake Forest Transfer Delaney McSweeney

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Wake Forest transfer Delaney McSweeney will join the University of Iowa volleyball team, it was announced Thursday by head coach Jim Barnes.

McSweeney, a 6-7 middle hitter, spent three seasons with the Demon Deacons before entering the transfer portal.

“Delaney is coming back home to Iowa with something to prove,” said Barnes. “Her agility at 6-7 is extremely rare. She will be at the top of the Big Ten in blocking and will be a high offensive scorer within our middle-centered offense.”

The Center Point, Iowa, native played in all 104 sets and started all 29 matches as a redshirt sophomore in 2021, leading Wake Forest with 34 block solos and 104 total blocks. She ranked third on the team with 203 kills.

The Center Point-Urbana High School prep was a 2018 First Team All-Conference selection, and was named to the 2018 Northeast All-District Team, and was a 2018 Third Team All-State selection.
