IOWA CITY, Iowa – Nia Washington has signed a national letter of intent to join the University of Iowa Volleyball team for the fall 2022 season, head coach Jim Barnes announced Thursday.
“Nia is a dynamic athlete and a fierce competitor,” said Barnes. “She is incredibly fast and is also very skilled as a six-rotation left side hitter. Nia has a superior work ethic, and she will make an impact on our program.”
Washington, a 5-10 outside hitter, is a three-time Louisiana state champion and two-time state championship MVP selection. She was named the 2020 and 2021 Division V Player of the Year and was a three-time selection to both the all-metro and all-state teams.
The New Orleans, Louisiana, native recorded 403 kills, 342 digs, 42 aces and 33 blocks in 2021 for Metairie Park Country Day School. She passed both the 1,200-kill mark and 1,000 digs during her high school career.
Washington played for NOLA Volleyball Club and was a 15U National Premiere Division bronze medalist and All-Star, and a 17U National Premiere Division Champion and National Premiere Division MVP.
Washington joins incoming freshman Harlei Cole, and transfers Jacqlyn Caspers, Amanda Darling, Anna Davis, Delaney McSweeney, Lily Tessier, and Michelle Urqhart.
