Marinelli, Guerin Named Student-Athletes of the Month for March

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa student-athletes Alex Marinelli (wrestling) and Lauren Guerin (women’s gymnastics) were named March’s Student-Athletes of the Month. The University of Iowa Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) made the announcement Thursday.

Marinelli ended his Hawkeye career as the 2022 Big Ten Champion at 165 pounds. The Miamisburg, Ohio, native became just the eighth four-time conference champion in program history. At the NCAA Championships, Marinelli earned All-America honors and became the 25th four-time All-American at Iowa.

Guerin defended her conference floor title at the Big Ten Championships, finishing with a 9.950 score. The Austin, Texas, native is the second Hawkeye ever to earn back-to-back Big Ten titles.  She became the 18th Big Ten champion and eighth floor champion in school history, helping Iowa to its highest conference finish since 2017.  She was also named to the Big Ten All-Championship Team.

At the NCAA Regional Championships, Guerin tied for second and helped Iowa advance to its first NCAA Regional Final since 2004. She was a co-champion on floor at the Regional Final. Guerin earned second-team All-America honors, becoming the second Hawkeye ever to earn three All-America distinctions. Guerin also became the third gymnast in program history to be a four-time All-Big Ten selection.
