OAXTEPEC, Mexico – Incoming University of Iowa women’s wrestler Nanea Estrella won the U20 Pan-American Championships at 59 kg on Saturday.
Estrella dominated the competition outscoring her opponents, 47-4, in four matches.
All four of her wins came via technical fall. She opened her weekend defeating Camila Roa Ortega of Peru, 12-0. Estrella defeated Mia Friesen of Canada, 12-2, and Tatiana Hurtado Lerma of Columbia, 13-2. In the gold medal match Estrella handled Lucero Sanchez Silva of Mexico, 10-0.
Across the Atlantic Ocean the Hawkeyes had two competitors earn bronze at the Spain Grand Prix in Madrid, Spain – Felicity Taylor (53 kg) and Reese Larramendy (65 kg).
