3 Hawkeyes Named Big Ten Golfers to Watch

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Three University of Iowa women’s golf underclassmen – sophomore Paula Miranda and freshmen Madison Dabagia and Shannyn Vogler — have been named to the Big Ten Women’s Golfers to Watch for the 2022-23 season, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.

Miranda, who is on the watch list for a second straight season, posted a team-best 74.74 scoring average over 27 rounds as a freshman. The Puebla, Mexico, native had a team-best three top 20 and one top 10 finish on the year, including a runner-up showing at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.

Dabagia had a strong prep career at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, tallying four top-five finishes at the state meet, including finishing as the state runner-up as a sophomore. During her final prep season, she recorded a career-low 66 (-6) and had a 70.5 scoring average. Her accolades include Indiana Junior PGA Champion, Indiana Girls State Junior Championship and she made the cut at the National Junior PGA Championships in 2021.

Vogler joins the program following a stellar prep career at Bettendorf (Iowa) High School where she won back-to-back Class 4A state titles as a junior and senior. The Moline, Illinois, native qualified for the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur, the Junior Girls PGA Championships and the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.

The Hawkeyes open the fall season Sept. 12-13, traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the Dick McGuire Invitational.
