ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team sits in a tie for 16th place following the first two rounds of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, which is being held at the University of New Mexico Championship Course. The Hawkeyes fired a 606 total with rounds of 293 and 313.
A trio of underclassmen – sophomore Paula Miranda and freshmen Riley Lewis and Shannyn Vogler – are leading the charge for the Hawkeyes. Miranda is tied for 34th with a 148, while Lewis and Vogler shot 152s to tie for 63rd place.
Lewis and Miranda both had even-par 72s during their opening rounds. Lewis had four birdies on the day with three coming in her first 18 holes.
Ohio State leads the field with a 10-under par 566. Kent State’s Mayka Hoogeboom is the individual leader with a seven-under par 135.
