Clark, Czinano on Naismith Women’s POY Midseason Team

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa junior guard Caitlin Clark and fifth-year post player Monika Czinano was named to the 2023 Naismith Women’s Player of the Year Midseason Team on Tuesday. Clark was also named the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Women’s College Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this year.

This season, Clark is the only player in the nation with more than 630 points, 180 rebounds, 180 assists, and 35 steals. She has registered +25 points, +5 rebounds, and +5 assists in 13 games this year and 35 times in her career which is the most in NCAA women’s basketball history. Clark is leading the Hawkeyes with 27.6 ppg, 7.9 rpg, and 8.1 apg. Clark leads the country in triple-doubles. (3)

The West Des Moines, Iowa, native also was recognized as Big Ten Player of the Year and was a Naismith and Wooden Award finalist in 2022.

Czinano is averaging 18.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and is shooting 67% from the floor. Czinano is third nationally in field goal percentage and has a pair of double-doubles this year. She ranks fourth in the conference in points per game.

A season ago, she earned All-Big Ten accolades, was named a semifinalist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year and was an Associated Press and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-America honorable mention. For the second time in her career, she was named to both of the preseason all-conference teams.

The No. 5 Hawkeyes are set to travel to No. 2 Indiana on Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CT) in Bloomington.
