ANN ARBOR, Mich. – University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving completed its third day of competition at the 2023 Big Ten Championships inside the Donald B. Canham Natatorium on Friday.
Freshman Scarlet Martin placed sixteenth in the night’s 100 fly finals (53.96). The Iowa City, native advanced to the finals via a swim-off to break a preliminary round time tie.
Another freshman, Geneva Pauly, joined Martin in the final rounds – this time in the 3-meter dive. Pauly scored 248.20 to finish sixteenth overall.
Two freshmen – Emily Wooden and Olivia Asay – found career best times during Friday’s preliminaries. Wooden clocked a 59.40 in the 100 fly, while Asay finished the 100 back in 59.39.
The night concluded with the 200 free relay. Iowa’s quartet of senior Kennedy Gilbertson, sophomore Molly Pedersen, freshman Sabina Kupcova, and Martin finished eleventh.
The Hawkeyes wrap up Big Ten Championships on Saturday, beginning with 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and platform dive preliminary rounds starting at 9 a.m. (CT).
